This project evaluates the effectiveness and community perceptions of the Alcohol Management Plans which have been implemented in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

Alcohol Management Plans have been a significant intervention in many Northern Territory communities. They have been designed to address the serious health, social and economic effects of alcohol misuse. This evaluation explores how effective the interventions have been, and how well accepted they are by the community. This project is significant as it marks the beginning of a new partnership between Menzies, The Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Families, to undertake substance misuse research. It is also important as Alcohol Management Plans have been established across the Northern Territory and the findings from this evaluation will inform further evaluations.

Recommendations were published from this study in June 2009. A full copy of the report can be downloaded by clicking here
