ISIN-MANA Study: Investigating Sepsis through Implementation of a Novel Microbiological and Nucleic Acid amplification testing Strategy in Timor-Leste
Aims:
Primary aim:
- Assess the feasibility of enrolling patients with acute febrile illness (AFI) into observational and/or interventional studies which may evaluate the clinical impact of novel diagnostic devices, clinical decision support systems and/or antimicrobial stewardship interventions for AFI in Timor-Leste
Secondary aims:
- Verify and implement a novel multiplexed PCR assay at the National Health Laboratory (NHL).
- Describe the etiology of AFI at selected healthcare facilities in Timor-Leste.
- Describe the incidence and clinical features of AFI.
- Describe the antimicrobial management and outcome of AFI
Summary:
This study will enroll patients attending healthcare facilities in Timor-Leste who have clinical features of infection and who are having a blood culture taken as part of their routine care. A blood sample will be taken and will be tested using a multiplexed qPCR assay. Baseline data will be collected, and participants will be actively followed-up for 10 days. Incidence, clinical features, etiology, management, and outcome of this group of patients will be described. Feasibility of conducting larger observational and/or interventional clinical studies on AFI within the Timor-Leste healthcare system will be assessed.
